The VP-Controller is responsible for the leadership, development and execution of MasTec West’s Accounting operations.  This role establishes accounting policies and internal controls, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations within the accounting function.  This leader partners with internal stakeholders to assess the operation of the organization, and identify and provide solutions for process challenges.  This role reports directly to the SVP-Finance for the West Region and operates in a matrixed environment with Operational Leadership.









Responsibilities






  • Lead, manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting function and team, including, but not limited to, General Accounting, Project Accounting, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Billings, and Payroll
    • Develop, document and maintain business processes and accounting policies and procedures to strengthen and maintain an effective internal control environment and integrity of the books and records
    • Oversee the financial accounting close process, including revenue, cost of revenue, operating expenses and balance sheet accounts, in a timely and accurate manner
    • Oversee reconciliation and review of financial accounts, ensuring timely completion and close out of reconciling items
    • Manage audit (internal and external) inquiries and ensure timely and adequate responses are provided
    • Maintain compliance with government and organizational reporting requirements
    • Partner closely with FP&A to support data needs and analysis, including executive level reporting for performance monitoring
    • Provide consistent and reliable data for ongoing forecasting and planning, including P&L and cash flow
    • Oversee cash management for the region, monitoring KPIs and driving actions as needed
    • Perform ad hoc analysis to understand variances in financial and operational drivers
    • Identify financial and operational opportunities and work across functions to drive improvement
    • Lead business transformation efforts in conjunction with strategic priorities
    • Build/maintain relationships with Segment/Corporate teams, internal and external auditors, key financial vendors, and customers
    • Actively manage, mentor and coach team members; inspire and encourage continued growth and development








Qualifications






• BS in Finance, Accounting or Business Management; MBA, MS and/or CPA preferred
• Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, accounting processes, internal controls, and accounting/ERP systems
• 10 years of progressive finance leadership experience, with a minimum of 5 years serving in a leadership role supporting a field-based business; energy/construction industry experience preferred
• Ability to accurately and efficiently close books, report timely results and explain variances
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to communicate vision and gain alignment with senior leaders
• Ability to influence, adapt and lead through change and ambiguity in a dynamic growth environment
• Problem solver with a focus on simplification; adept at envisioning, articulating, implementing and building consensus around optimal solutions
• Highly organized and detail oriented; able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously; excellent project management and time management skills, with a focus on delivering results on time, on budget, and on goal
• Strong oral and written communication, presentation and facilitation skills
• Ability to inspire/lead change; track record of building strong teams

Wage Range: 

$210,400 - 273,600/annually
