OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:  

The Network Systems Administrator (NSA) primary responsibilities are to manage, maintain, and optimize the organization's computer networks and systems The NSA ensures high availability and reliability of network infrastructure and resolves network-related issues The NSA will monitor system performance, install software and hardware, and provide technical support to end-users and embrace a critical role in maintaining network security and implementing updates to maintain secure systems.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Performs Network Administration
  • Designs, installs, configures, and maintains network hardware & software, including routers, switches, firewalls, & VPNs
  • Monitors network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality
  • Performs network upgrades and security updates
  • Configures network devices and manage user access to maintain network security
  • Documents network configurations, changes, and upgrades
  • Other duties as assigned

 

System Maintenance

  • Installs, configures, and updates operating systems and software applications on servers and workstations
  • Conducts regular system backups and implement disaster recovery plans
  • Monitors system performance, perform tuning, and manage system resources to ensure reliability
  • Schedules and performs regular maintenance to minimize downtime

 

Security Management 

  • Implements and manages network security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and anti-virus software
  • Monitors network activity for potential security breaches and respond to incidents in a timely manner
  • Regularly reviews and updates security measures to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Trains employees on network security protocols and best practices

 

Technical Support

  • Provides technical support to end-users, assisting with connectivity issues, network troubleshooting, and general IT queries
  • Collaborates with the IT team to resolve escalated issues and provide solutions to complex technical problems
  • Manages network access for new employees, including setting up user accounts and permissions

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED:

 

Network Optimization and Planning

  • Evaluates existing network infrastructure and recommend upgrades or improvements
  • Remains current on emerging technologies and suggest integrations to enhance system efficiency
  • Assists in developing and implementing IT policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with vendors and suppliers to evaluate and procure network equipment


EDUCATION AND IF REQUIRED,PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION(S);

  • Associate or BS degree in Computer Science or Information Systems 
  • Professional certifications in Microsoft Server, Cisco Hardware, VMWare and NetApp preferred

 

 EXPERIENCE:

  • Apple/Macintosh technical and functional support background is a PLUS
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a networking support environment, with a strong focus on managing software and hardware support team(s) and/or equivalent experience
  • Managing software projects including planning, implementation, user training and documentation desired

 

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in network protocols, hardware, and services (eg, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Strong understanding of network security protocols and best practices
  • Experience with firewall configuration, VPNs, and security management
  • Familiarity with server administration, virtualization, and backup solutions
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users
  • Ability to learn new systems, processes, & procedures
  • A gracious, Christ-like demeanor in demanding situations

  • Network Equipment (Servers, Switches, Firewalls, Spam Filters, Printers, SAN devices)

  • Occasional extended work hours are required beyond normal business hours/weekends and holidays
