Responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of property and facilitating connections with faculty, staff, students, and outside community groups for outdoor learning spaces. Responsible for duties encompassing all aspects of landscape maintenance. Provides supervision of subordinate personnel and assigned crew members.
Serves as facility liaison for academics as it relates to the use and needs of outdoor learning opportunities. Maintains records and accountability for allocated Grant funds. Performs and supervises tasks including but not limited to operating and repairing equipment, design and maintenance of outdoor spaces, irrigation repair and programming, controlled burns, and property inspections.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Must stay up to date on all governmental rules and regulations that apply to landscaping activities and ensure that strict compliance is maintained.

Job Description

  • Supervises assigned employees. Responsible for planning, organizing, and directing assigned property and grounds maintenance activities. Creates work orders, prepares schedules, delegates work according to the project.
  • Performs and/or assists in repair and maintenance of plumbing and irrigation systems and checks operation of irrigation system to ensure proper irrigation and conservation of water. Performs minor electrical maintenance.
  • Performs general grounds clean-up including pick up of trash. Organize, supervise, and perform snow removal including shoveling, ice melt application and operating equipment.
  • Trains employees in the safe and proper use of grounds equipment and supplies. Instruct new employees on methods, procedures, and policies. Ensure the use of proper PPE. Maintains accurate records for chemical use and maintenance work performed including over seeding, fertilization, aeration, and pesticide use.
  • Conducts needs assessments, recommending improvements and/or enhancements to property.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; obtains quotes or bids as needed, and verifies orders to ensure fiscally responsible use of funds and compliance with purchasing standards.
  • Builds relationships with community groups as it relates to conservation and sustainability of college landscape.
  • Coordinates preventive and other maintenance and repairs with contractors and reviews contracted work before approving payment.
  • Assists other departments and perform other duties as assigned.

Rate of Pay $48,671 annually

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, vibration; and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree (AS or AA) or equivalent and 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2 year’s supervisory experience.

2 years experience in irrigation installs, maintenance, and repair

Non-Commercial pesticide applicators license.

Preferred qualifications

Good English communication skills and ability to speak conversational Spanish.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Professional and TEAMS applications.

Experience or education in sustainability practices.

Experience with controlled burns.
