Organizational context and job purpose

Business Context:  The Olefins & Polymers USA (O&P USA) business within INEOS includes the product lines Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE).  Our 4 Manufacturing sites encompass Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (La Porte, TX), and Carson (Carson, CA), with a division office in League City, TX.  Overall, O&P USA has approximately 1,300 employees, 1,400 contractors, and annual revenue of $6.5bn.

The Chocolate Bayou Site (CBW) is located in Southeastern Texas about 40 miles South of Houston and consists of two Olefins units that produce approximately 4bn pounds/year of ethylene, 2 Polypropylene units that produce approximately 1bn pounds/year of polypropylene, a power island and utility area capable of producing 130MW and >1M pounds/year of steam.

The Main Purpose of the Role: 

The Sr. HR Advisor performs a wide range of HR generalist activities including sourcing, compensation, performance management, employee relations and training support.

Responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Develop, recommend, and implement HR policies and procedures. Respond to routine and non-routine requests for information on policy interpretation. Conduct periodic audits of human resource activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Conduct recruitment efforts for exempt and nonexempt staff. Work with team leaders for external sourcing.

  • Advise management on policy and/or legal compliance.  Conduct investigations. Provide high level, confidential employee relations counseling, and exit interviewing.  Make recommendations to management on employment matters.  Coach/counsel management on employee matters.

  • Act as an internal consultant providing HR technical support to clients. 

  • Prepare and/or maintain special internal and external reports (salary reports, employee demographic reports, headcount reports, job vacancy reports, special ad-hoc reports as required for management).  Evaluate reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals.

  • Assist with developing, coordinating and recommending changes for the improvement of workflow in the HR area. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.

  • Implement and administer various aspects of benefits / compensation programs as required.

  • Conduct annual salary surveys, analyze compensation when requested; develop salary proposals and other compensation recommendations.

  • Monitor performance evaluation program and recommend revisions as necessary.

  • Prepare and/or maintain special internal and external reports as requested.

  • May develop, coordinate or assist in training activities as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

  • May serve on internal teams at the site and within INEOS as required. 

Skills And Knowledge Required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, influence outcomes, and provide coaching and consultation to clients as needed.

  • Ability to form and maintain strong relationships with all clients as required.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with individuals both internal and external to the company.

  • Ability to proactively seek out solutions and answers rather than passing on problems to others.

  • Keen attention to ensuring accuracy and following up on unresolved issues

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and promote a safe working environment. 

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of professional HR generalist experience with at least 7 years' experience in employee relations.

  • HR experience in petrochemicals or other similar manufacturing industry is preferred.

  • SPHR/PHR or similar certification preferred

Education:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field.
