Position Overview:



The Director of Safety will play a critical role in upholding Spartan Carrier Group’s commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence. This role will focus on both daily safety operations and strategic initiatives, ensuring adherence to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and DOT standards. The ideal candidate will lead safety programs that minimize risk, promote a culture of safety, and drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.


 


Key Responsibilities:


 



  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement safety policies and procedures aligned with FMCSA regulations, fostering a proactive safety culture and promoting best practices.

  • Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure the company adheres to FMCSA and DOT standards, managing driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance, and hours of service.

  • Training & Education: Provide comprehensive safety training for drivers and employees, including new driver orientations. Develop ongoing educational programs to reinforce safe practices and compliance.

  • Operational Oversight: Manage and track all CSA violations, and lead initiatives to mitigate risks. Investigate accidents to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.

  • Reporting & Communication: Maintain accurate safety records and provide regular performance reports to leadership. Communicate updates on regulatory changes and company safety policies.

  • Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and manage compliance audits and investigations.


 


Qualifications:


 



  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a safety management role within DOT Fleet Transportation.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of FMCSA regulations and guidelines.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with safety management software and MS Office Suite.

  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director of Safety (CDS) are preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, logistics, safety management, or a related field is preferred.


 


Working Conditions:


 



  • Office-based role with occasional travel to operational sites and regulatory meetings.

  • May require availability outside standard office hours to respond to incidents and emergencies.
