About the role

We are looking for a Counterparty Risk Manager (Financial Risk) who will support the Senior Risk Manager in assessing the counterparty risks associated with business activities.

You will provide advice, oversight and challenge to the 1st line as a representative of the Financial Risk function.

Responsibilities

  • Challenge and support first line on the counterparty risk assessment, management and mitigation required for new and existing business activities.

  • Support the Line 2 review and challenge of the financial risk assessment of counterparty risk management including the oversight of new counterparties.

  • Make recommendations to the Senior Risk Manager and Director of Financial Risk and other colleagues on the acceptability of risks proposed to be taken by Line 1 as part of project or business as usual activities.

  • Support the development of the counterparty risk framework and guidelines.

  • Track the resolution of risk issues and observations.

  • Monitor counterparty risk exposures against limits and escalate risk concentrations and issues associated with the counterparty risk.

  • Be considered a trusted advisor to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical Financial Risk support and advice is provided.

  • Support delivery of:

    • Risk Business Partner for DB and connectivity with other Risk Business Partners;

    • Risk reviews/opinions on Line 1 business proposals;

    • Statutory documents including ORSA, Run-off plan, SFCR and RSR; and

    • Risk reporting to committees and Boards as required.

  • Regularly review, present and challenge reports with senior managers, identifying issues where changes to risk profile or appetite may be required.

Skills & Experience

  • Financial Management degree or equivalent experience is essential

  • Financial Risk Management professional qualification or equivalent is desirable

  • Experience in the risk management of financial exposures within a life insurance or commercial company or investment bank

  • Risk analysis experience

  • Quantification of financial risks and experience describing non-quantifiable risks

  • Strong understanding of risk management techniques and challenges.

  • Strong understanding of counterparty risk including experience of interfacing with legal to ensure protections are included in documentation.

  • Strong problem solving, analysis and resolution skills.

  • Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to collaborate with other functions.

  • Ability to challenge others in a clear and constructive manner.

  • Understanding of the risk management framework to use within the Group.

  • Strong delivery focus and organisational skills, to co-ordinate and deliver multiple projects.

  • Functional knowledge of MS Office applications
