You'll join one of the UK's leading planning consultancies at the forefront of thought leadership in sustainable infrastructure and development, from Net Zero to ESG, Biodiversity Net Gain and digital transformation.  Progress with your career interests in delivery works across the diverse range of our clients. The team is strongly integrated with our transport, energy, engineering and design businesses. We are currently providing planning and environmental support on major UK projects for clients. These include a number of water companies across the UK including Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water, significant rail projects including for Network Rail and HS2, in addition to major road schemes for National Highways. We are also leading the delivery of schemes for new homes and supporting infrastructure on a range of complex sites for Homes England. Our team also continue to advise on and support local authorities to deliver projects around their growth agenda. We continue to expand our presence in the energy and renewables market where we are building on successes with hydrogen generation (for example Hynet at Ellesmere Port) and electricity transmission (e.g. National Grid) and floating offshore wind (e.g. Kincardine OWF). We also provide strategic planning advice in the UK to central government and its agencies, local enterprise partnerships, local authorities, combined authorities and the private sector.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate planning applications and strategies, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business and mentor others in the team.

The position requires a candidate that combines an excellent track record in planning with experience in the delivery of a range of infrastructure and development projects with excellent business and people skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of applications for a range of planning applications, also providing support on applications under TCPA, Development Consent Orders and Transport Works Act Orders.
  • Prepare and implement planning strategies to deliver projects and development proposals & delivering high quality advice, reports and presentations based on sound and robust quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Deliver evidence base studies and site appraisals to support policy development, planning consenting and master planning projects capable of withstanding scrutiny at examination.
  • Drafting, checking and reviewing high quality supporting reports & negotiation of planning submissions successfully through the consenting process.
  • Develop client network and collaborate with colleagues across AtkinsRéalis to win work including through formal tenders and bids & manage project inputs from other technical disciplines within AtkinsRéalis and external consultants.

Requirements:

  • A degree or post graduate qualification in Town and Country Planning (RTPI accredited) with Chartered membership of RTPI.
  • Detailed relevant experience working in consultancy, a local authority planning team, or similar.
  • A sound, in-depth knowledge of planning law and procedures and sound commercial awareness and proven ability to manage project budgets.
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering multi-disciplinary projects; ability and aptitude to work alongside and coordinate internal and external technical specialists with strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills, and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss planning, development and environmental issues.
  • Proven experience of building successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders along with ability to check and review complex documents and summarise and present key issues concisely, understandable to non-specialists.
