GAL Manufacturing is looking to fill the position of Assistant Controller, who under the direction of the Vice President, Finance & Treasurer will primarily be responsible for performing all Quality Control Inspection activities.
Requirements
We are searching for a candidate with:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership and audit experience in a professional accounting firm, preferably with a Big 4 and/or experience in a multi-company/business unit environment, following a minimum of 2 years’ experience with a professional accounting firm and proven abilities to manage all aspects of the accounting, consolidation and financial and management reporting processes at the headquarters level.
An undergraduate degree in accounting or finance is required
CPA is required
Manufacturing environment experience is preferred
An advanced degree such as an MBA, MS or related graduate degree is desired
A self-starter with exemplary skills in project management, coordination of internal and external resources, creative problem solving and effectively negotiate with and manage budgetary and other resources
Proficiency with financial information systems, including ERP systems implementation
Executive leadership presence with strong influencing and communications skills
Ability to travel up to 20% of time
Duties and Responsibilities
A typical day may include:
Provide leadership to the business unit controllers over all aspects of accounting and reporting, including general ledger charts of accounts, transaction processing, journal entries, and monthly closing routines with the objective of enhancing the quality and accuracy of reporting, reducing closing cycle time, and automating manual activities wherever practical
Improve the current existing monthly closing calendar and standard closing processes across the business units and group level to ensure timely closing and reporting of monthly results
Standardize the monthly consolidation and reporting process to ensure accuracy and completeness of results
Establish a cadence of monthly management reporting that captures the key drivers of the business and tracks performance against targets
Provide timely analytical support and action-oriented insights to operational management related to capital investments, pricing policies, regional sales and other operational initiatives, focusing on the drivers of incomes, not just the outcomes themselves
Provide input and support to the information technology function over financial systems and related controls, helping management move the company to one that is creative, nimble, customer-focused, and performance driven
Standardize accounting and reporting practices across the company and serve as the subject matter technical expert for accounting, financial and tax related matters
Serve as the functional leader in developing a practical and business savvy internal control and enterprise risk management framework that ensures the integrity of financial reporting and effective management of business and compliance risks
Serve as the primary day-to-day interface with the external auditors, including benefit plan auditors
Oversee domestic and international tax and regulatory compliance and related planning over sales, use, and income tax matters and partnership reporting
