Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledger; reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis.
- Verify cash receipts and disbursements to agree with bank statements of the College and prepare journal entries appropriately.
- Receive funds, (cash, checks and credit cards) from student, faculty, grantors, banks and other sources; record receipts for preparation of bank deposits.
- Assist the external auditors with preparation of audit schedules.
- Inventory all physical assets.
- Prepare schedules for contributions and the Endowment; and ensure proper recording of long- and short-term debt of the College. Prepare schedules for funds in Trust and Estates.
- Assist with reconciliation of receivables and accounts payable; payroll and cash disbursement accounts; prepare tax schedules; prepare special reports as needed; maintain/update policies and procedures manual.
- Respond to accounting questions from departments and operating units.
- Maintain a pleasant and professional attitude in the daily contact with students, parents, faculty, staff and other constituencies.
- Assist with the budgeting process.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or a closely related field. Master’s degree or CPA desirable. Knowledge of principles and practices of fund accounting in an academic environment. Ability to exercise critical human relations skills and analytical skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of various business software, as well as ERM systems.
Salary
Commensurate with education and experience.
