Job Description
Position: The Livestock Judging Coach/Recruiter is a full-time, benefitted, professional ( FSLA Exempt) position located at the Torrington Campus. EWC pays up to $1,000 for relocation expenses Start Date: August 1, 2024 (Successful applicant may start duties earlier through separate negotiation allowing for timely recruitment opportunities) Salary Hire Range: $48,169 – $58,234 annually for each 11-month appointment (actual amount depends on education and experience) Job Summary : The Livestock Judging Coach will oversee all aspects of coaching a highly competitive livestock judging team, including responsibility for training and mentoring students interested in competitive livestock judging. The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a network of local, regional, and national contacts supporting student recruitment and success. The position requires day time, evening, and weekends depending on the practice schedule and competitions. The position requires travel throughout the United States. The position duties require approximately 75% Livestock Judging Coach and departmental support, and 25% Recruitment. Essential Functions/Duties: ● Coaching Function: o Coach and train students for competitive livestock judging events, focusing on developing their skills in evaluating various types of livestock, including cattle, sheep, swine, and goats. o Organize and lead regular practice sessions, providing instruction on judging techniques, oral reasons, and industry trends. o Coordinate student participation in livestock judging competitions, both on-campus and off-campus, ensuring that students are well-prepared and represent the college with professionalism. o Mentor students individually, providing feedback on their performance and helping them set goals for improvement. o Collaborate with other faculty and staff in the Agriculture Department to integrate livestock judging activities into the curriculum and provide additional learning opportunities for students. o Assist with recruiting efforts to attract new students to the livestock judging program, promoting its benefits and opportunities for personal and professional growth. o Serve as a liaison between the college and industry partners, fostering relationships and identifying opportunities for student internships, scholarships, and career advancement. ● Facilities and Livestock o Promote animal welfare and safety in all aspects of the program o Organize livestock judging contests sponsored by the college o Promote and assist other entities in the use of college facilities for judging events ● Recruiting Function o Recruit, select, manage, and retain a team of motivated students interested in livestock judging who will well-represent Eastern Wyoming College academically and as a team member o Develop a plan to attend 4-H, FFA and other related events o Work closely with the Director of Financial Aid to determine potential scholarships o Establish and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national contacts to support student recruitment and success ● Budgetary Responsibility o Administer and monitor the operational budget for the livestock judging program o Track scholarship and recruiting expenditures o Develop fund requests for livestock judging sponsor assistance o Create and assist in fund-raising opportunities including those with the EWC Foundation ● Academic Oversight o Monitor livestock judging team member’s class attendance, provide academic advising, and track academic progress toward degree completion o Develop and implement an academic support system for team members o Serve as a mentor and advisor to students interested in pursuing careers in the livestock industry and provide guidance on educational pathways, internships, and professional development opportunities o Monitor the on and off-campus performance of the team throughout the academic year ● Collegiate Livestock Judging Coaches Association o Keep current on all Collegiate Livestock Judging Coaches Association rules and regulations o Ensure team compliance with all rules including grades and eligibility requirements

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in animal science, agriculture, or a related field Extensive knowledge and experience in livestock judging, including a thorough understanding of breed standards, conformation, performance characteristics, current industry trends, advancements, and best practices in livestock judging Previous coaching or mentoring experience, preferably in livestock judging or a related field Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and motivate students Demonstrated fund-raising experience and ability to work with Foundation staff Demonstrated skill in budget management and planning student travel for events Dedicated team player Commitment to promoting animal welfare and safety in all aspects of the program Valid Driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in animal science, agriculture, or a related field Experience coaching for an intercollegiate livestock judging program
