SUMMARY

 

The IT Computer Specialist is a senior-level position responsible for leading and managing comprehensive programmatic activities. This role demands a high degree of autonomy and expertise in strategic planning, complex analysis, and coordination of larger projects.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Diagnoses and resolves problems in response to customer reported incidents.
  • Develops and maintains problem tracking and resolution databases
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains DOS hardware and software
  • Provides customer training and support staff in the use of audio/visual equipment, smart boards, teleconferencing, videoconferencing, etc. for conference room set-up, installation and breakdown and serves as back-up facilitator, as necessary.
  • Ensures the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of customer support services
  • Troubleshoots PC client vs. intranet site issues.
  • Provides support on application deployments and administration including change control policies.
  • Directs and oversees vendor(s) and DOS technician(s) installation as applicable and appropriate, manages schedules, escort, support, logistics, and if needed, conflicts within the group.
  • Facilitates testing, defect resolution, and user acceptance.
  • Updates and maintains web page(s), provides data compilation and analysis, and drafts general correspondence.
  • Aids with managing user permissions
  • Troubleshoots desktop issues to include SharePoint.
  • Assists with managing SharePoint application deployments and administration in accordance with CA and Department policies.
  • Reviews lower-level referrals and troubleshoots and resolves problems to the extent possible
  • Refers more difficult requests to the appropriate levels of support.
  • Recommends changes in standard customer support procedures where existing procedures no longer provide solutions or are outdated.
  • Assists in defining requirements, priorities, and strategies for IT and AV projects.
  • Independently plans and carries out the assignments in conformance with accepted policies and practices.
  • Adheres to instructions, policies, and guidelines in exercising judgment to resolve commonly encountered work problems and deviations.
  • Drafts and maintains technical and project documentation to maintain reference library on shared drive.
  • Assists with budget and funding preparation and planning, as appropriate.
  • Assists in creating strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Keeps GTM apprised of pertinent issues.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid U.S. passport and able to obtain/maintain a minimum SECRET clearance.
  • 2+ years’ experience working in the IT field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Services (MOSS) developer and programmer experience
  • Knowledge of Department of State systems and infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Department of State standardized document formats
  • Ability and experience to ‘use,’ ‘train to use,’ and ‘demonstrate the use of,’ audio visual, teleconferencing, videoconferencing, and smart board equipment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal abilities during conversations, both verbal and written, with DOS employees at all levels, other contractors, and other Federal counterparts
  • Demonstrated timely and proficient organizational skills with the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and multi-task in a high volume, fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to have a flexible, team-oriented approach to work while building and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to perform heavy (up to 50lbs.) lifting and/or moving of furnishings and/or equipment and endure prolonged periods of standing with no limitations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
