How will I help?


As a Manager in the Data management risk team, you will be responsible for First Line Data Risk management and stakeholder engagement and commitment. You will manage risk predominately within the areas of Financial Crime and Credit risk, as well as other risk classes and undertake First Line activities including:



  • Root Cause Analysis’

  • Impact Analysis’ confirming root cause, quantification (where required), and documentation

  • Data Problem impact assessments


This role also maintains a significant stakeholder management component, where you will engage, inform, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders across the Risk Division and the broader Westpac Group to ensure they remain engaged and committed to helping deliver required standards for Risk Data Management.


Further responsibilities include: 



  • Ad-hoc analysis of data problems, incidents, and issues, ensuring tickets are tracked end-to-end

  • Planning of remediation data problems including documentation of the JUNO Issue and associated actions where relevant

  • Participation in Data Problem governance forums and meetings

  • Preparation of data problem summary documentation to facilitate governance sign-off processes

  • Coordination of data problem investigation and analysis with upstream Data Producer Divisions

  • Contribution to other Data Risk Management activities such as CDE Management, CDE Onboarding and Data Quality Monitoring

  • Stakeholder engagement and management 

  • Coordination of signoffs and approvals of key decisions and outputs/deliverables

  • Coordination and negotiation with large pool of stakeholders to obtain commitment to undertake implementation activities (e.g., resolution of Data Problems / Issues) within agreed timeframes

  • Coordination and tracking of activities performed by supporting teams (e.g., Data Platforms, Risk Class Data Teams and others)

What do I need?


To be successful in this role, you will have a broad risk class exposure within financial services organisations with at least 8 years’ experience in Data Risk or a related data management field, as well as regulatory obligations experience in Credit Risk and Financial Crime. You must also have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with cross functional team and senior stakeholders. Furthermore, you will also maintain strong technical skills with advanced Excel and SQL experience.


Other advantageous attributes include:



  • Data Risk Management such as Data Quality Management, Data Controls Management, Data Governance or Data Lineage 

  • Experience across multiple Financial Crime disciplines and an understanding of Financial Crime processes and regulatory obligations 

  • Understanding of Credit Risk concepts including Basel III/Risk Weighted Assets and IFRS9/Expected Credit Loss 

  • Ability to influence others to drive results and reinforce the process requirement to business upstream 

  • Negotiation with stakeholders to obtain required information and validate information

  • Strong business analysis (including data and controls) and problem-solving skills

  • Experience in data warehousing, information modelling or ETL development would be beneficial but not essential 

  • SaaS experience 

  • Experience in working with the Alex metadata management tool 

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Strong personal drive and accountability

  • A team player able to build collaborative working relationships across team members and other stakeholders

  • Graduate or post graduate qualification in commerce/business, information systems, technology related discipline, or equivalent
