Position: Data Entry Specialist and/or Indexer
Pay Rate/Range: $14 per hour
Job Description: Scanning/Indexer This job is 100% office work, and the candidate will need to be able to sit and work in front of a computer screen for 95% of the day. Scanning documents and running Optical Character Recognition (OCR) which allows you to search your files by keywords so you can find what you need quickly. Storing electronic records in on-line portals, data centers, or delivered. Prepares indices for books and other publications. Reads material to define which items should be in index. Arranges topical or alphabetical list of index items, according to page or chapter, indicating location of item in text. Classifies items of topical interest and inserts cross references in index to refer reader to related subjects appearing elsewhere in text. Directs activities of clerical staff engaged in typing index, filing subject-cards, and performing related duties. May prepare related items, like glossaries, bibliographies, and explanatory footnotes, following literary style of manuscript author.
Job Requirements: Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Manage own time and the time of others. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, organization rules, and the democratic political process. Previous Indexer experience preferred but not required. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. General typing test (60wpm with 90% accuracy), database entry, and 10-key tests (20,000 kph, 35wpm, 90% accuracy).
