Responsibilities






In support of the Operational, Planning, Implementation, and Assessment Services (OPIAS) contract, Peraton is seeking a Data Analyst. This individual will leverage empirical research findings and various data sets to support planning and operational assessments on behalf of US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) in Colorado Springs, CO. 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting OIR analysis and assessment activities, to include the visualization and briefing of data (e.g., developing histograms, trend graphs, etc.), and overseeing technical inputs for the construction and application of an analytic dashboard constructed through Peraton Labs.

 

The candidate should also be comfortable working with military planners to break down and synthesize data in a fashion that best informs plans and operations.

 

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Conduct analysis of structured and semi-structured data sets, to include opinion research, social media-based big data, and various secondary-source indices.
  • Support assessments of the information environment, applying a combination of opinion research data, intelligence, operational reporting, and social media insights.
  • Brief USNORTHCOM leadership on commissioned research findings (e.g., trends) and online data analysis.
  • Provide data visualization and quantitative analysis; managing and optimize existing databases and associated dashboard(s); and reviewing / incorporating commissioned qualitative research to provide context to quantitative findings.
  • Leverage online analytic tools kits for social media-related scrapes.
  • Work independently or in collaboration with social scientists, ORSAs, and other data scientists within and outside the USNORTHCOM Theater.
  • Support the Peraton analytics and assessment team in the construction / modification of research design.








Qualifications






Required Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Minimum of 5 years with BS/BA, minimum of 3 years with MS/MA, minimum of 0 years with PhD. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher linked to data analytics (e.g., math, physics, computer science) OR problem set analysis (e.g., international relations, political science, cultural anthropology, communication studies, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience applying social media-oriented data analytic tool kits towards the evaluations of problem sets in the information environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in briefing senior military leadership (O-5 and above).
  • Experience with building briefs summarizing data and research findings in MS PowerPoint.
  • Willing and able to work in Colorado Springs, CO for the duration of the position.
  • Willing and able to travel within the USNORTHCOM area of responsibility as required by the program.
  • The ability to work on a team in a collaborative environment is a requirement.
  • Current U.S. passport.
  • Current Top Secret with eligibility for SCI.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Graduate degree (MS, PhD, etc.) linked to data analytics (e.g., math, physics, computer science) or problem set analysis (e.g., international relations, political science, cultural anthropology, communication studies, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience applying data analytic tools towards addressing national security issues.
  • Experiences with machine learning, natural language processing and Python script.
  • Geospatial analytic package experience (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.)
  • Joint intelligence or operational experience with U.S. Geographical Combatant Commands.
  • Prior experience working USNORTHCOM-based problem sets.
  • Experience with campaign / operational assessments.
  • OSINT experience for interpreting the relevance of online trends, themes, narratives, and adversary behaviors in the information environment.
  • Statistical package expertise in IBM SPSS/PASW, R, STATA or MS Excel statistics.

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
