Job Title: Automotive Sales Manager


 


SUMMARY


The Sales Manager is responsible for supervising, motivating salespeople, and promoting and encouraging strategies to sell vehicles.  The position requires performing manager duties such as organizing schedules, training, interviewing, hiring and setting goals.  They are responsible for ensuring customer retention and overall profitability while establishing customer-focused sales standards.  Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with customers is a requirement.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Hires, trains, motivates, counsels and monitors the performance of all salespeople.


Directs and schedules the activities of all salespeople to ensuring proper staffing levels.


Assists individual salespeople in setting aggressive yet realistic monthly goals and objectives.  Provides   support to meet these goals.


Maintains an accurate daily log that reflects all sales activities in the dealership.


Ensures proper follow-up of all potential buyers by developing, implementing, and monitoring a prospecting and sales control system.


Maintains teamwork in a customer focused sales environment throughout the sale, delivery, and follow-up process.


Conducts daily and weekly sales meetings.


Ensures that all salespeople understand and follow dealership policies and procedures.


Provides proper product training and resources for salespeople on a regular and continual basis.


Oversees the efforts of salespeople to enhance the image and customer satisfaction ratings of the dealership.


Works with salespeople on program that will increase the gross on sales and F&I penetration.


Helps with closing deals when necessary.


Reviews inventory daily to ensure the proper mix of grounded stock for maximum turnover efficiency.


Recommends to the general manager the new inventory to be carried by color, model, and equipment based on a variety of customer and market analyses.


Assists with trade appraisals.


Ability to work with other department managers.


 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsible for the supervision of all sales team members.


 


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s degree preferred or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


5+ years of experience in a sales role at a dealership.


Proven knowledge of effective sales strategies and best practices.


Substantial track record of exceeding sales quotas and goals.


Excellent leadership skills.


Keen attention to detail.


Strong communication skills.


Outgoing and service-oriented attitude.


Knowledge of inventory control and management.


 


REASONING ABILITY


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
